Dit oude boek, verdeeld in drie secties, leert ons meer over de meest geconsumeerde drank ter wereld. Lu Yu (733-804) stond ook bekend als de 'Chinese theesaint' en zijn werk als het 'heilige boek van de thee', wat een duidelijk voorbeeld is van de fascinatie die de Chinezen voor thee hadden. In die tijd zorgde de verschijning van dit magnifieke werk, gesteund door keizer Taizong, voor een revolutie en bracht het veel nieuwe theeliefhebbers voort, want na de publicatie ervan werd het drinken van thee een nationale traditie die, oorspronkelijk ontstaan in Zuid-China, zich ook uitbreidde naar de noordelijke staten.
